I've raised £500 to raise money for dementia research and Dad's nursing home.

INITIAL TARGET £400 REACHED - £200 donated to Washington Lodge Nursing Home
£200 donated to Dementia Research.
Thank you everybody - I am extending the page until next year, and will be partaking in more fundraising activities. :)
This year I turn 40.
I would like to use this year to raise money for dementia research and my Dad's nursing home.
My Dad was diagnosed with mixed vascular dementia and Alzheimer's in August 2015. My mam has done an amazing job of caring for him 24/7 for the past 3 years, but it has become increasingly more difficult as the dementia progressed, until recently we had to admit that Dad needs 24hr nursing care.
We are heartbroken and finding it difficult to deal with, but I would like to make something positive out of a truly awful situation.
Dementia isn't just being a little bit forgetful or a natural part of getting older. It infuriates me when people make jokes about it. There is nothing funny about dementia - it is a horrible disease that is stealing our lovely Dad from us.
So in my 40th year I would like to raise money to help others with dementia and maybe hold a party or something for the residents and staff in Dad's new home.
I hope to raise money by:
* taking part in sponsored events - such as a Memory Walk
* selling items on eBay
* contact businesses and people for raffle prizes
* take donations for doing family tree research
Even if people can't donate I hope to raise more awareness about dementia so that the next time you are in the street and see someone looking confused, or are at a till in the shop and the person in front is slow, or someone says something strange to you that doesn't quite make sense - please think twice about being mean or making cruel comments - show a bit of understanding - ask if you can help.
Thank you.
