Story

The unique Parish Church of St John the Baptist is at the heart of the mediaeval town of Axbridge and is a centre for civic and community activities as well as a place of worship. Dominating the town square the church, lauded by Pevsner, is a magnificent example of local craftsmanship, funded by merchants of the town. It is currently only accessible via steps insurmountable to many. We have approved plans and a contractor ready to build the solution - an almost level walkway from a suitably level Public Right of Way.
The project to solve the access problem matters because we, the Fundraising Team, of which I am the co-ordinator, believe passionately that we should all enter by one door and have no "backdoor" entrance for the less-able as currently exists.
