Story

Ladies and Gentlemen, Brothers and Sisters and friends. The time has come to close down this page but before we do I'd like to take this opportunity to thank you all for you magnificent generosity! I set the bar at £5k and by way of testiment to how well Frank is thought of and through YOUR kindness and generosity that figure was surpassed within just days. I'd like to thank each and every one of you and Frank and Donna, have put together a few words too. Salutations and MASSIVE thanks from me and here's what the man himself and his good lady have to say! Dave Horton.

As this page closes, this is probably a really good time to update you on Frank’s progress. Following his repatriation to St Margaret’s hospital in Epping. Frank spent 11 weeks in the care of the staff of Beech ward. In their hands he went from immobile and completely dependent, to standing and then walking with frames, crutches and then sticks. Along the way relearning to take care of himself. Frank enjoyed his time in St Margaret’s grateful to the staff and all the visitors that came up to see me. The record visit was one afternoon 13 people in his room and in the sweltering heat of June!

He was discharged in September and spent three weeks at home whilst awaiting a bed at the National Spinal Injuries Centre in Stoke Mandeville. It was there where the serious rehab took place. Frank’s positive outlook and desire to improve was matched by the opportunities there and expertise of the staff.

The stay there albeit brief was exhausting and also humbling. Seeing other patients more seriously injured with such inspiring attitudes and positive advice. He left there stronger, fitter and with a plan to keep his recovery moving ever onwards. In November he passed a driving assessment and has elected to have a preventative spinal surgery in the next few months. Frank is intent on recovering to his maximum potential and returning to work. He has been astounded and is so grateful for the support and encouragement he’s received. He said that getting this far without it would have been unthinkably difficult.

He sends his thanks to everyone connected to this page. As their donations have helped take the financial pressure off us at this difficult time.

Well done everyone!

Danna and Frank Livens.
