Helen was one of my best friends. She was the most amazing, kind, happy, but most of all brave, woman I knew.

In April this year Helen told me the news I never wanted to hear, the news nobody she knew wanted to hear, that the cancer she was fighting so bravely, so fearlessly, so courageously and so graciously, had spread & there was nothing they could do for her. But I knew, the hardest part in all of this for Helen was to tell her daughter Megan, who was her entire world and always had been, that she was going to be leaving her behind.

Megan is only 20. She’s now been dropped into the big wide world from a great height. She has a lot of forced growing up to do, but still her young life to lead, all without the support of her loving Mum.

I made a promise to Helen before she passed, that I would always be there for Megan, so this is where my promise begins…

I am fundraising for Megan’s future. A pot of money to be kept in a controlled account for exactly that, Meg’s future. It might be something practical like a broken boiler, something fun like a holiday, or something sentimental like a wedding dress. All the things Helen would have been there for.

I will be arranging different fundraising events as the year goes on, both for Meg & the MacMillian Unit where Helen was so lovingly looked after in her final week.
