Story
Let's Talk About Loss started in 2016 to end the taboo about grief and death by talking honestly and openly about it. The dream? To one day be a charity that everyone knows of and utilises, so that no 16-30 year old suffers alone in grief.
Why I started Let's Talk About Loss
My name is Beth Rowland, and I started Let's Talk About Loss a year after losing my mum to cancer. I was only 20 years old and I am very lucky that my mum was completely pivotal to my life - she was a fantastic parent, and more of a best friend than a mother. I had been convinced she would survive cancer - she was my mum, and all mums are bulletproof, right? Sadly she didn't, and her loss left me broken and confused.
Why 16-30?
I'm now 23, and I am still not ready to "fully adult" as I like to say. I would argue that as a young person, aged 16-30, you are just as much in need of love, care and support as you are when you are under 16. Just because you can drive, vote or drink alcohol doesn't mean you can understand grief or cope with it alone. It saddens me that there isn't any support for this age group, and I want to use my experience to help others.
Why should you support me?
Sadly, a charity needs more than a great idea and a motivated founder to turn it into an overnight success. In the two years that Let's Talk About Loss has been active, I've met lots of other young people who have lost someone close to them and all have said that my website has been really helpful. But there are countless more who are struggling alone and don't know that there are others who understand how they feel and can help them navigate the confusion of grief and loss. I need to register as a charity to make a significant difference to the situation of so many young people, and to do that I need £5000 in a bank account. Your support will make a huge difference. Thank you so much!
