Story

Oh Christmas, she's at it again!

"Lewes Mayor takes the plunge in ANOTHER fabulous fundraising stunt"

At 11am on Sunday 30th November - the last day of the swimming season at Pells Pool - the Mayor will once again be jumping in and swimming a length, this time alongside some seasoned cold water swimmers to raise funds for Landport Community Hub. Today (Wednesday) the pool temp was recorded at a teeth chattering 4.9 degrees!

The Hub, which is one of Emily's mayoral good causes for the year, is attempting to raise £16K for a new sports hall floor. Sports England have pledged £8000 in match funding if the Hub can raise another £8000 but the deadline is fast approaching!

Mayor Emily Clarke says,

"This time it's going to be FREEZING, but once again I'll be swapping my mayoral bling for a ridiculous seasonal costume and swimming a chilly length of the pool, to help raise funds towards this brilliant project". Emily laughed, nervously.

"Myself and our wonderful Town Clerk Veronique Poutrel, will be joining Pells Pool regulars to swim an icy length dressed as the Twelve Days of Christmas. This week the pool temperature has dropped dramatically, so it'll be a challenge for sure, but I am keen to help Landport Community Hub reach their fundraising target and support this incredible community asset"

"I'm asking locals and beyond to dig deep and sponsor my icy Pells plunge, to help improve the facilities for all at this wonderful and affordable community hub. Please do come down and cheer us along!"

Pells is a friendly and inclusive pool and operates as a ‘not for profit’ charity aiming to support wellbeing and health across our community.

First opened in 1861, Pells is an unheated, spring-fed pool, 50 yards (46m) long and 25 yards (23m) wide. As well as the main pool, there’s a paddling pool for kids, a sauna, a sun terrace and a beautiful tree-lined lawn, where you can picnic and relax after an invigorating plunge. The water is heated by the sun, so it's usually cool at the start of the season but soon warms up as the weeks go by.
