Story

During the early morning hours of 6th September Anguilla was hit by the strongest hurricane on record for the Atlantic. The destruction that Irma left behind was catastrophic. Nothing was left untouched - from our lives, to our homes and place of work, to our natural environment. We're grateful for the humanitarian aid that is coming into our island and while it will take time for power, water, buildings and livelihoods to be restored, we will recover.

Within this period of rebuilding, though, we can't forget how important the natural environment is too, not only supporting the island's recovery but also safe-guarding Anguilla from the destruction of future natural disasters. Now we need your help. Our team of young, committed, passionate Anguillans will be supporting Anguilla's recovery effort by assessing damage to our habitats, conducting monitoring to inform long-term environmental management decisions, restoring habitats and critically supporting species that are rare and live only on Anguilla. Unfortunately, we have lost all of our revenue streams because of this devastating hurricane, from our rental properties to our tours to our project funds which we cannot use during this time of uncertainty.

We need your help to get through this - we are asking for support to give staff working for charities on Anguilla such as the Anguilla National Trust with some continued salaries and health insurance in the short term, that they would otherwise forfeit at this time due to funding freezes in the aftermath of the devastation..
