Story

5 years ago I had an operation on my left foot to correct 4 hammer toes. Since then I have been in cronic pain. I have had 6 surgeries in total. 5 on my foot and 1 on my abdomen. I am in pain all of the time. I used to be an athlete. I ran, cycled, climbed, hiked, played tennis....basically my life was very active. I was also training to compete in triathlons. I worked full time as a Nurse, and life was great. Since the surgery i am unable to do any of these things. I cant even walk. I am facing a life on crutches and using a wheel chair. I recently asked my surgeon to perform a below knee amputation, giving me, essentially a new foot and getting rid of one that causes so much pain that i cant sleep, work, socialise, and live. Ive been taking Tramadol and Morphine for 5 years now, which come with their own risks and have cause me to have bowel and stomach problems as well. This is not how my life is supposed to be. I am a registered nurse and i have been off work for around 3 years out of 5. This has held up my career immensely. Ive watched people I qualified 12 years ago with progress and have a great career. When i can work, ive had to reduce my hours dramatically and can only do certain jobs, but even then i end up going home crying in pain. This surgery could give my back the chance of a normal life. Not one debilitated by pain. The surgery is the start. From there I have a long road of recovery, and then eventually I will be able to fit into my forever leg (prosthetic from Dorset Orthopaedic) and a running blade. This could enable me to be able to run like I used to. I have huge ambitions including the london marathon and a half ironman triathlon. All of these would require a running blade.
All of the funds raised will go to paying for these 2 prosthetics. Any left will go towards abling devices like a light wheelchair.
Please help if you can. Thankyou so much for reading my story.

Goodmorning. As you may know, i saw my surgeon last week. Fantastic news, theyve agreed to amputate my leg on the nhs. This was totaly unexpected as i was told that they dont operate for pain, but both surgeons have said its necessary. So, my fundraising will now be changed for medical equipment. The nhs does provide some, but definately not my running leg, or a small wheel chair to fit in our car. Im now awaiting a date for the surgery, but im told it will be before the end of November. Thankyou all for your continuing support.

Hi there. I just wanted to let all of you know that my vascular surgeon has agreed to perform my surgery. I, as you can probably imagine, was totaly shocked as i had been told that my operation couldnt be performed on the nhs as it doesnt recognise pain as a reason for the surgery. Thankyou so much to those of you who have kindly donated to my page. I will be changing my fundraising page, and with your permission, id like to put the funds raised towards medical equipment like a running blade and wheelchair. Thankyou so much to all of you x
