Story
On May 9th, 2018, I lost someone very special. Scott Hutchison was not only a brilliant artist, singer and songwriter but a wonderful friend and one of the most amazing people I’ve ever had the pleasure of having in my life.
I was lucky enough to get a marathon place through work, and with it the chance to fundraise for my chosen charity. The marathon was never something I thought I’d ever get through, but neither was losing a friend to suicide. Scott’s death has affected not only his family and friends but also his fans, who have taken to heart his lyrics “while I’m alive, I’ll make tiny changes to earth”. I want to continue Scott’s legacy of making ‘tiny changes’ by running the London Marathon.
I joined a running club in September to get me off the sofa and because running does great things for my mental health. There have been blisters, injures, a few falls and I’ve still got 3 months left of training! Those 3 months will be filled with sobriety, early nights and long, lonely runs. I started off with just one minute in September and though I’m by no means looking forward to about 360 minutes of running on April 28th, I’m glad it’s for a good cause.
Scott’s brother, Grant, is in the process of setting up a charity in his name - The Scott Hutchison Fund. ”The Scott Hutchison Fund has been set up in memory of our beloved Scott. It will form the basis for a Mental Health Charity to be set up fully in the coming months. We hope to be able to help others the way Scott did with kindness, empathy and hope.” - Grant Hutchison.
