LGBTQ UNITED COMMUNITY GROUP are raising money for a new speaker for their regular demonstrations in town. The group has provided a counter for the hate preachers who dominate the Belfast City Centre for the past 5 years, and have succeeded in drawing attention to the issue of hate speech in our public spaces.

Since 2020, LGBTQ United Community Group have provided a safe space for queer people in the city centre, have attended consultations and focus groups on homophobia and transphobia, have provided expert witness to the police on hate crimes witnessed, and have given hope to many. The effect of hate preachers on the residents of our City has not been quantified, and to date public bodies have failed to sufficiently protect the vulnerable in our society from hate speech, which while detrimental in itself, can also lead to hate crimes. The incidence of hate crimes is rising in Belfast.

Despite the enormity of the task, LGBTQ United Community Group have continued to provide steady and reliable hope and encouragement to our City's queer community, especially those of the Christian faith, with no public funding or support.

We'd like to ask for your support for the group's volunteers by helping us to raise £500 for a new speaker for the group, and £300 towards the many volunteer expenses incurred in this work.
