Story

Hello!

On December 9th, 2017, David and I are participating in a lock-in/sleepover at Lighthouse, Edinburgh's radical bookshop. Sure, there'll be stories and hot chocolate, but really this night is about raising money for two incredible community projects helping the homeless in Edinburgh.

Streetreads is an organisation that donates books to homeless readers, soup kitchens and food banks, and Souper Saturday provides food, hot drinks, companionship and assistance to the homeless and vulnerable in Edinburgh every week. As well as ensuring that rough sleepers have the dignity of having their basic needs met, these groups work hard to make sure that those living on the streets have space and time to escape into books and to immerse themselves in social interaction. Fighting the isolation of homelessness is a big job and these guys do it amazingly.

Every single penny donated will be split between these two organisations, 50/50. You can read more about them and about the event here.

This is a crowdfunding page rather than a direct charity donation page as JustGiving doesn't seem to allow to split donations between two charities. We will be taking the money and donating it in person on the night (and will provide proof!).

It's an expensive time of year for all of us, but if you can stretch to donating a few pounds, it'll go towards ensuring that no one will go hungry or lonely over the winter—and that they'll have the joy of books to keep them going.

Thank you!
