Story

The AKAYA Foundation is back with it's flagship programme - The Like Her Project!

The Like Her Project encourages young girls to 'Dream, Think and Work towards being Like ‘Her' - the 'Her' in question being any phenomenal woman the young girl looks up to.

Why does it exist?

- 1 in 3 girls in Sub-Saharan Africa lack basic educational access, whilst only 20% of the girls in Sub-Saharan Africa complete upper-secondary school.

- The safety, hygiene or sanitation needs of girls in some places are still not being met with at least 500 million women worldwide not having access to the facilities and resources they need to manage their periods. Thus having a significant impact on their pursuit of education (1 in 10 girls miss 20% of the school year in sub-Saharan Africa) and health (e.g. STIs)

After it's success for the past 2 years, join us in donating towards this all important cause. This time we want 500 GIRLS ACROSS GHANA to be inspired to take ownership of their journeys'; in good knowledge and in good health. With the provision of tools kindly donated to minimise barriers to their education, ensuring they reach their fullest potential.

What will the workshops entail?

- 1.5 hour educational workshops on female sexual health (including menstruation), confidence building, public speaking and empowerment.

- Donation of health and educational items designed to minimise the barriers towards the pursuit of an education e.g. sanitary pads (combatting period poverty), hygiene and stationery and school supplies.

When women thrive, all of society benefits, and succeeding generations are given a better start in life - Kofi Annan
