    Lily's Stroke Story

As some of you may know, Lily suffered a hemorrhagic stroke on 27th April 2020, during national lockdown 1, aged only 8.

Lily went from a normal, healthy 8 year old girl, to being totally paralysed down the whole right side of her body, and completely losing her speech, all within just half an hour.

Lily was rushed to GOSH, where they confirmed the worst.

Who knew children could suffer a stroke?? We certainly didn't. Even though all the typical stroke symptoms (FAST) were being displayed, we never in a million years thought this could happen to our little girl.

Lily was unable communicate, to walk or even sit up, eat, drink, or do anything for herself. She spent 4 weeks in GOSH and working with their rehabilitation team, before being stable enough to be transferred to the rehabilitation centre.

This is the UK's leading charity for children with brain injury, and offered us residential rehabilitation outside of a hospital setting, to develop an understanding of Lilys needs, and restore lost skills. They do this through a daily schedule of Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy and Speech Therapy sessions, along with some school sessions which she thought she had got out of...ha ha ha.

The team there are nothing short of amazing. Lily arrived in May 2020, in a wheelchair, with zero confidence and unable to do anything for herself, to ringing the bell in July 2020, without the use of her wheelchair.

We will be eternally grateful for everything they did and would like to give something back.

We will be splitting all the money raised with half going to The New Cheyne Centre where Lily had daily rehabilitation sessions and the other half will go to Camelia House where we lived for our 6 weeks stay.
