Weʼve raised £20 to help create an autism friendly sensory home for my son Tony.

    Story

My son Tony is a 39 year old man who has a severe learning disability with autism and challenging behaviour. When Tony was 6 months old he needed extensive brain surgery due to a large cerebral cyst in the centre of his brain and as a result his brain was badly damaged. He experiences high levels of anxiety on a daily basis and he struggles with normal day-to-day things that we probably take for granted.

Due to the nature of Anthony's disabilities, his home has always been very bare because at times when he becomes very anxious, he breaks things that are near him and often the things that are very precious to him. Its a vicious circle because Anthony is often very distressed because his precious things are not there for him any more.

All the professionals who support Anthony say that he would benefit from living in an environment that stimulates him without sensory overload so this is what we are trying to do for him. Hopefully we can create a home just like this for Anthony.
