Story

I am a student studying Children's Nursing in London. So far, my journey has been incredible and I have tried to make as much difference to the lives of the families and children I meet. It took me many years to apply for a course and spent 16 weeks whilst working full time to achieve the maths qualification that had held me back for so long.

So far I have had some amazing feedback from staff and families about the work I do, but it has also been an honor to be part of their lives and have a positive impact.

I am passionate about helping children reach their potential in life. I am passionate about nursing and promoting what nurses do. I try and take part in as many extracurricular activities, I am an academic mentor, ambassador and course representative. I want to be the best possible nurse that I can be and the help to fund an elective would be an absolute dream. I have spent time helping and supporting the Alzheimer's London Memory walk to create more awareness about dementia - due to my grandmother having dementia for some time now.

In August 2019, I would love to take my 3 week elective in Nepal, where health care is unlike our system here and where resources are low. I know it is a privilege to go abroad for an elective and not something I could ever do without your help.

NURSING IN POKHARA

It’s common in Nepal for families to provide bedside care for patients, which is good news for Nurses as this results in a much more clinically focused placement. Whether you’re looking into Adult, Paediatric, or Mental Health nursing, there’ll be something for you. You’ll have the chance to turn your attention towards much more niche areas of interest like leprosy rehabilitation or Neonatal Intensive Care. Another unique aspect of this placement is your ability to join local Nursing students on ward rounds to exchange skills and information that neither party would have otherwise been able to acquire. What’s more, you’ll work alongside seasoned specialists from all over the country from whom you’ll learn the ins and outs of working in such a resource-poor environment.

HEALTHCARE WEEK

In addition to your main placement in Pokhara, for one week you’ll have the chance to become part of a rural village family up in the Himalayan Mountains. You’ll spend time in a health outpost treating villagers with even fewer resources than the hospitals have.

Any help would be much appreciated and I promise to make a difference in those 3 weeks as well as bringing what I learned back to the UK.

Fund raised will go towards funding the program 'Work the World'

Thank you so so much for taking the time and effort to read this!
