Weʼve raised £523 to Help with the setup cost of Lindfield Repair Cafe

Funded on Thursday, 13th January 2022

    Story

We plan to open the Repair Cafe on 6 November and run every 1st Saturday of the month from 10am-1pm at the Lindfield United Reform Church.

We are a non-profit CIC, a project 'run for the community by the community'. Our mission is to reduce landfill waste by education, encouragement and motivation.  Being a hub to bring the community together from all ages or backgrounds,;we have a place for everyone who wishes to volunteer.

There will be other benefits, particularly to wellbeing for those who get involved, providing a meeting place and the opportunity for local people to share their skills with others or just get together for a chat and a cup of tea.

Once the initial set up is funded, we will be a free service, run by volunteers sharing their knowledge, with voluntary donations to cover the cost of repairs and a cafe service on the day.

As well as the Repair Cafe for adults we aim to have a kids table 'our future repairerst' where children can, with supervision, take things apart and see what is inside and how they work.

There will also be a community project table where each month a different community project can promote their activities, ideally those that are environmentally based and share the core principles of the repair cafe movement.

We will also be inviting donations to the food bank, which is also located at the church.

We need funding to start up, this includes the financial and administrative costs, insurance, marketing and promotion materials to be used on the day, basic and specialised  tools and safety equipment, supplies and the first month’s rent. We also need to cover the cost of PAT testing, including training, a laptop with Wi-Fi to be used on the day for looking up parts, instructional videos and online manuals.

Every penny made is reinvested into the project, we don't have any wages or personal expenses.

Huge Thank you who helped us achieve this, especially as it looks like we will not obtain the big grant that we were hoping until next year.
