    Story

4 years ago my Dad was diagnosed with Dementia at the young age of 58. As a family it was the worst possible diagnosis and we had no idea what was in store for us and how quickly our dad would start to be taken away from us.

My dad was a very practical and hardworking man, he was kind and could tackle anything we threw at him. If I ever had a problem no matter what it was, I always knew I call 'call my dad to fix it'. There was nothing he couldn't do.

He started to forget things and his short term memory was getting worse. He would forget what he was doing or if he has done things so repeats the task. He would forget what he is thinking, can't remember it seems to just go. He started to get lots of headaches, felt tired and was cold all the time. But worst of all he lost his speech early on and was unable to communicate with us. He forgot passwords was unable to read or write anything other than his signature.

Just 4 years down the line he is now in full time care unable to most things on his own anymore. Even the things we all take or granted, like talking, eating and washing yourself. The man who was the strongest person I knew was being taken away, trapped in a body that was unable to function or communicate. We know he is still in there when he holds our hand, or smiles at his grandchildren, which makes us determined to give him the best life we can.

9 months ago we were lucky enough to get him into Weston House in Stafford. It's not just a care home, it's his home with the most amazing staff there that do everything they can for my dad. So when I was asked to help raise funds for Weston House there was no way on earth I couldn't.

On Saturday 12th August me, along with the staff at Weston House are walking Snowdon through the Llanberis Pass. It's a 7km hike accenting 950m, which should take about 4 hours.

It would be amazing if you could sponsor us, there's no donation too small, as the money raised will make such a difference to dad.
