I'm raising £10000 to Help Take Lines of Resistance to Ukraine

Story

Since the beginning of the conflict I have been documenting Gloucester’s response to the war in Ukraine through Lines of Resistance, a monumental painting more than 50 metres long featuring volunteers, aid workers, Ukrainian refugees, local residents and the people I have met during multiple visits to Ukraine.

The project tells the story of a remarkable moment when Gloucester came together to help. Local people raised money, collected aid, opened their homes, welcomed refugees and showed solidarity with people facing unimaginable circumstances. This exhibition is a celebration of those actions and the people behind them.

Throughout July and August 2026 I will be completing the final sections of the artwork in a public live studio at The Shirt Factory in Gloucester. Thanks to the support of The Shirt Factory, visitors will be able to watch the exhibition being created, meet the artist, hear the stories behind the paintings and even contribute their own messages of support as part of a participatory section called Messages of Resistance.

Once completed, my ambition is to take the exhibition to Ukraine, with planned exhibitions in Kharkiv, Kyiv and Odesa. As the exhibition tours, Ukrainian visitors will be invited to add their own messages and stories to the artwork, creating a unique dialogue between Gloucester and the communities affected by the war.

Your donation will help cover transport, accommodation, exhibition costs, insurance, documentation and community engagement activities needed to make the tour possible.

This is more than an art exhibition. It is a message of solidarity carried from Gloucester to Ukraine and back again. It is a record of a city that chose to help, and a chance to celebrate the kindness, compassion and resilience shown by ordinary people during extraordinary times.

Every donation, no matter how large or small, helps take Gloucester’s message of friendship, hope and support to Ukraine.

Please help us make the journey.
