We desperately need your help!

We are a team of volunteer rescuers who also have full time jobs, but we go out in what spare time we have to rescue injured or poorly wildlife in our city.

We will attempt to rescue any wildlife species that we are asked to help. From tiny mice to deer! We don’t discriminate on species.

Aside from going out every day rescuing, we also collect daily, any injured wildlife that members of the public have taken to the vets in our city. This means phoning all the vets every day to see if they have anything to go to WRAS’s wildlife hospital in Whitesmith. Every day there are wildlife casualties to be transferred to WRAS. Just doing ‘the WRAS run’ is a 45 mile round trip, more if we have to go to all the vets and rehabbers first to also collect casualties to go there. Our fuel costs are extremely high, even more so now the fuel prices are sky high! If we go to WRAS just once a day every day, this costs us a minimum £300 per month in fuel costs. However, in the busy spring/summer season we go to Wras at least twice a day, sometimes 3 times a day. This doubles and triples our fuel costs. Not to mention wear and tear and added mileage on our own cars. This mileage doesn’t include the added mileage we do when out rescuing, which can go into the hundreds of miles each week. For instance, in the past, in the busiest months, our fuel costs have been as high as £900 per month. This is not an exaggeration.

We also have to make the added long distance trips to The Fox Project, South Essex Wildlife Hospital and Mallydams when our local go to rescue WRAS get full.

Then there’s the cost of fish! Sprats to be precise. We have rehabbers who throughout the summer season have to house orphaned gull chicks and fledglings at home. They also have gulls all year round when they can’t go to other wildlife facilities for various reasons. Our rehabbers don’t just have one or two gulls, but up to 60 of them ! The average monthly fish bill in the peak season is £450! So this and the fuel bill is totally unsustainable for us, we simply can’t do it.

We also have our own rehabbers for pigeons, mice and other small critters, all of which costs money to keep them.

So as you can see, we simply can’t afford to do this out of our own pockets. This is why we need to ask for your help so we can continue to offer our free rescue/rehab service. If we can’t raise enough money to help us through this busy season ahead, we will have no choice other than to scale right back what we can offer, or even close when the money runs out, which means saying no when people ask for our help. This may mean stopping gull rehab so we have enough money to at least pay for fuel, parking costs etc and be able to still at least do rescues, but the gulls will suffer if this is the case.

We can only continue what we do if we have the funds. It really is thanks to our donators that have kept us going over the last 8 years. Thank you to everyone that supports us, especially those that have set up a monthly donation via bank transfer, this really is a life saver. You are all so kind and generous and are literally what keeps us going.

Please donate if you can, every £1 help us to help the wildlife.

If you are donating via this link and it’s suggested to pay a ‘tip’ to just giving, you don’t have to pay this. All you need to do is change the ‘tip’ amount to £0 as this tip doesn’t go to us, it goes to just giving.

Thank you all so much 🙏
