Story

As many of you will know, and equally, many of you may not know that my very lovely, beautiful best friend, Debbie, was diagnosed with Stage 4 Lung Cancer in April 2018. Being at stage 4 meant that the cancer had already spread and she was told the harrowing news that although it was treatable, it was incurable. Although it has absolutely devasted everyone closest to her, no one can truly imagine what Debbie is going through. She is 44 years old and has terminal lung cancer. Deb has gone through so many highs and lows in the last 9 months and we could honestly not have any more admiration for her. In May, Sam, her true soul mate proposed and they got married in August 2018 and it was hands down, the best wedding ever, a very beautiful, emotional day. A scan in July had revealed that the tumour in her lung had shrunk thanks to the targeted therapy she had been put on and it was celebrations all round. Everyone was so happy and filled with hope. Unfortunately, subsequent scans and tests have not been as positive and there have been more setbacks and lots of tears. Deb is going through so much every single day, she very often can’t sleep and is in an awful amount of pain and yet she has very rarely felt sorry for herself and has been so amazing and positive. Throughout this all, Deb’s biggest fear is not only leaving her 3 amazing and beautiful daughters without her, which quite frankly is unimaginable and so bloody unfair, but it’s leaving them financially unstable as due to the physical and emotional challenges of the cancer, Deb is currently unable to return to her beloved job as a community nurse. To be able to help we are in the process of registering a charity ‘Debbie’s Children’ and looking at fund raising to help Deb’s girls and also other children/young adults who are in the same position. The very latest setback is that Deb needs an urgent scan, she has just received the date for the ‘urgent’ scan of 13th February! Every day is critical, literally. We learned today that the cost of going for a private scan is just over a £1000, so that is where we will start. If anyone has any ideas or time toward fundraising please contact Lisa, Carmen or Chanel. Thank you! Please share xxx
