Story
Hello everyone!
My name is Lise. I am an educational psychologist and mum of three munchkins.
I am passionate about helping to raise the achievements of children with Down Syndrome.
I have been developing a programme and intervention box for schools to help children with Down Syndrome understand and develop their maths skills when they start school; all based on research.
I am committed to proving that - with the right support, early and consistent intervention and time - children with Down Syndrome can achieve as much as their peers.
The maths box contains a booklet that I have put together with specific advice, support and evidence, along with books and activities/games specifically chosen to support children with DS. Every box will contain at least ten activities such as counting bears, giant garden dominos, matching games and other maths specific activities. These activities have been chosen specifcally to suit the needs of children with Down Syndrome. Each activity is there to support children with filling a specific learning gap. We anticipate children using these boxes for much of their time in primary school; either during some quiet time or with a small group of peers.
Helping children with Down Syndrome to learn and retain complex mathematical concepts remains somewhat of a question mark. I believe this practical project begins to fill this gap and will make a huge difference to many children in school, including their peers.
THIS IS WHERE YOU COME IN! I would love your help for this intervention to keep growing. Please help me reach my new target of £1,500. Your donation will enable me to support fifteen families and fifteen schools in the South West. Every donation will help so much, no matter how small. The money raised will solely be used to purchase the games/activities and books for each box.
Together we can raise achievements for children with Down Syndrome. With the right help, we can build amazing little mathematicians!
