Story
With the family's agreement, I've raised the target as your kind donations have meant it was met incredibly quickly. Thank you so much. Every penny will count, Jess' treatment goes on until April 2019 and anything we raise will go towards providing some much needed breathing space for the family.
Just before Christmas in 2016, 2 year old Jess was diagnosed with T-Cell Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma, a rare form of cancer. Needless to say, it was a great shock.
From then, her life completely changed. Before cancer Jess' life was full of friends, nursery, ballet, swimming and everything a two year old should be doing. Now her life is full of chemo, injections, permanent venous line, anaesthetics and blood transfusions. So far, she has had 75 nights in hospital due to high temperatures and three episodes of septic shock. Her long term prognosis is good – 80% chance of full recovery.
Her aggressive treatment means she has a suppressed immune system and vulnerable to infection. She can't mix with many children so playgrounds and activities are largely out of bounds for now. Chickenpox, brick dust and mud are potentially very dangerous for children like Jess. Her elder sister Izzy, 5, misses being out and about having fun with Jess, and especially playing in the garden - because soil is full of things that can cause fungal infections, which can be fatal. So the plan is to lay artificial grass at home to make it a safe place to play and provide some equipment to make it a fun environment for them to enjoy together
The family are also very grateful for all the support they have received from charities and London hospitals and would like to donate some of the money raised to them, so they will be able to support other families beginning this tough journey
Please except our heartfelt thanks for your very thoughtful and generous donation
