Story
Noel and I will be working in Little Me primary school in Insingiro, Uganda in June and are raising funds to help the school.
The school is very remote – a 6-hour drive from the capital Kampala in a poverty-stricken area. The school has only recently had a toilet installed and a water butt to collect rainwater for drinking. There are sixty children at the school, aged between 4 and 11, with two teachers.
This opportunity arose via an introduction through our local Church to Eve. Eve (now 90 years young) and her late husband spent years working in schools in Uganda and adopted two children there. Eve (on her husband’s passing) invested in setting up the school in Grace’s garden (her adopted daughter) amongst the banana plantations. We will be staying in Grace’s house during our stay.
We will also be assisting with a Church and children’s club in Lugonjo, near Entebbe, which was set up by Lesley, an ex-resident of our village Hartlip. Their needs are also great as many people come to the Church hoping for a meal and the support and use of the children’s club. Sadly, there is not enough capacity for everyone.
We are fundraising ahead of our trip so that we can provide much need support to the school to enhance its facilities. The school's needs are many including soap dispensers, water storage canisters which keep the water sanitised, tables and chairs, painting of the school building, educational and sports equipment. We will also attribute some of the donations to the Church.
Thank you in advance for your kind donations. Our travel costs have already been paid for by us so all of the money raised will go to the school, Church and children’s club.
