    Story

Behind every good cause there is always a story. Our story is about our son’s kidney transplant journey. Our son Sayf who is 8 years old, had kidneys problem from an early stage of his life. But over the last year his kidney functions deteriorated rapidly that a normal regular meeting with a consultant bought our whole world crashing down. It was then that reality hit home. Our son needed dialysis or a transplant. We have prepared ourselves with this news but, it was still a shock to us. This year in May we had to admit our son to Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) for dialysis. Kidney failure was only an element of what our son suffers with. He has other severe disabilities. He has no sight, he has severe development delays hampering communication immensely. So first hurdle was dialysis, and how our son will cope with it as he is a nightmare when he has to have blood tests. This wasn’t too bad. Soon within a week his blood levels became normal. And then another hurdle. Doctors felt that our son had an infection and dialysis could not carry on. But when one door closes God opens many more. My husband was given the all clear to donate his kidney after 6-7 months of various tests. Doctors gave us an early date for the transplant. On 15th of September we came to GOSH and 18th of September my son had kidney transplant. It was the worse day in my life, my husband was in Guys Hospital in theatre and in GOSH my son. I was a wreck! They say Angels come in many forms , in my case it was the NHS staff. Every single person was really really amazing. At 1.10pm my son was taken to the theatre. Only I know what I was going through, even though I had my family there with me but hospital staff made a huge difference. I felt that I was not alone and they shared my pain . I never felt alone, as the NHS angels were there to support me. It was 8.30pm when one of the nurse’s told me that I can go and see my son in ICU she took me down. Usually the walk is 2-3 minutes. This felt like hours. I saw my son I couldn't walk towards him, I wanted to scream and shout but the shock of all the wires and machine connected to him broke my heart. I was sobbing uncontrollably. I have seen my son have many procedures and operations. This was different. But as always I was not alone through my experience again. A doctor in ICU came to me she hugged me. I felt reassured, the doctor encouraged me to walk towards my son. I felt that the doctor felt my pain and somehow took it away with tremendous support. My son was kept in ICU for a few days. He was then bought back to the Eagle ward. After the operation, this was another huge test for me. I was very emotional, I could not manage shifting between the two hospitals supporting my son and husband. I was rescued again with the support provided by both of the hospitals. The nurses have in the Eagle ward have been a exceptional. I built an excellent relationship with all of them. It feels like I have known them all my life and they are my family and friends. Soon as you walk through the ward, it’s refreshing to see every single member of the ward always smiling. I can imagine the seriousness of the illnesses they must see but the smiles seem to be permanent. As the ward specialises in kidneys problems. Lots of children now have became part of the Eagle ward family. They have to come for dialysis come rain or shine. When you look at these children you feel heart broken. No matter whether it is holidays, school days, Xmas, Eid or even their birthdays .They still have to come to ward for dialysis so the can have a normal life. We really would like to help the children and the ward by donating. This could be for anything that you can think of.

From sophisticated equipment or to just simple toys for children so they can have a bit of normality in life. I would really appreciate if you can support the ward by donating generously. Every penny counts and it will go a long way to put a smile on a child’s face.

We cannot donate without your support. I thank you in advance. I will send links very shortly how to donate or you can meet me in person to pay cash.
