Story
On May 25th 2020, George Floyd was murdered by police officer Derek Chauvin in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He was handcuffed and lying face down on the street during the arrest, made after Floyd was accused of using a counterfeit $20 bill at a market. Chauvin kept his knee on the right side of Floyd's neck for 8 minutes and 46 seconds; according to the criminal complaint against Chauvin, 2 minutes and 53 seconds of that time occurred after Floyd became unresponsive. Floyd died of cardiac arrest whilst being held in this position.
I will be running 90km, 10km a day, 10km per minute that Chauvin kept his knee on George's neck, to raise money for the Black Lives Matter movement.
Black Lives Matter are focusing on issues concerning racial injustice, police brutality, criminal justice reform, Black immigration, economic injustice, LGBTQIA+ and human rights, environmental injustice, access to healthcare, access to quality education, and voting rights and suppression.
My heart is heavy, I believe it's important now more than ever to read, learn, listen and take a stand against racism. "If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor." Desmond Tutu.
Donations will go towards the Black Lives Matter Charity, to fund the movement.
