Story

On the 12 March 1950, 80 people lost their lives when the aircraft they were travelling in, crashed on its approach to land at RAF Llandow. Those on board had been travelling home from Dublin having watched Wales defeat Ireland in the Five Nations Championship - a year in which Wales clinched the title winning both the Triple Crown and the Grand Slam. At the time, it was the it was world’s worst air disaster in terms of lives lost and is still worst aviation disaster in Welsh history.

Sigingstone is the sight of this tragic event and there is a memorial plaque in the village to commemorate it. The villagers are looking to raise funds to help with the upkeep of the memorial and to update it as this year marks the disaster’s 75th anniversary.

Any and all donations will be greatly received and much appreciated.
