Story
The Llandrindod Wells Victorian Festival will have its 38th consecutive Festival from 18th to 26th August 2019 the first festival being in 1982.
In previous years the main grant came from Powys County Council. In recent years Powys County Council have substantially reduced grants from £80,000 in 1982 to £5670 in 2018, due to the economy and lack of funding from the Welsh Assembly to Powys County Council there will be no grant during 2019. 2019 is also the bicentenary of the birth of Queen Victoria which makes the 2019 Victorian Festival extra special for Llandrindod Wells the most Victorian of Towns in Mid-Wales.
All daytime events are free of charge on Temple Gardens and our High Street with seven days of activities in which the whole town and our many visitors (some 15,000 over the seven days of the Festival known as Victorian Week attend).
We also have evening events which are ticketed and the income from these events, after costs, subsidises the day events.
Due to the lack of funding many Victorian Festivals around the UK have ceased, we have to keep the one in Llandrindod Wells viable and this cannot be done without grants, sponsorship or donations.
The Victorian Festival is the main event of the years in Llandrindod Wells with all locals and visitors dressing in Victorian costumes. the Victorian Festival also brings business to our shops and hostelries during the quiet period at the end of the summer. All funding will go towards free events and entertainment on Temple Gardens.
Work has already commenced on the 2019 programme and website www.victorian-festival.co.uk
