Story
Llanelli Warriors are the premier integrated rugby team in the world - they include players with learning and physical difficulties.
In June 2017 they will go on tour to New Zealand and Samoa - possibly the most ambitious sporting project involving players with learning difficulties.
The tour will be important for the individuals going, boosting their confidence, social skills, life experience and knowledge. They will be able to test their sporting prowess and gain new respect from others.
It will also boost the profile of integrated rugby on an international level, continuing the Warriors work of spreading this concept that has already seen them help numerous other teams get established across Europe.
Integrated rugby sees players with and without disabilities playing on the same team and against non disabled opposition. Part of the rugby community, not some segregated separate entity. The Warriors are again pushing boundaries by taking this concept to the 2 toughest rugby environments in the world.
The players have paid and fund raised for the tour but this fundraiser is to make sure that they can definitely complete the Samoa leg and that they are able to be confident in their activities, make sure travel and accommodation is totally suitable.
People with learning difficulties face numerous problems; discrimination, social exclusion, low income, prejudice. 8 out of 10 will have suffered bullying as a child, 50% of families with a disabled child live in poverty, only 1/3 of people with a learning disability take part in some form of education or training and only 6% of people with a learning disability who can work are in work (source - Mencap). Some of our players manage conditions such as Autism, Downs and Cerebral Palsy but love their rugby, on and off field.
Support these passionate rugby players take their message of positivity right around the globe.

7 years agoWe would like to thank everyone who supported our Just Giving campaign. We really felt the love as so many people donated, many who have never seen us play or heard of us before this campaign. The tour is going to be something special and will be life changing for the players who go, will raise the profile of this concept and will set a bench mark for disability sport. The full itinerary can be seen here, Thanks/Diolch eto! http://www.pitchero.com/clubs/llanelliwarriorsrfc/news/learning-disabilities-team-take-on-schedule-that-e-1832650.html
