Weʼre raising £10,000 to help fund the Longridge Cluster Schools Armistice Project.
- Longridge, City of Preston, United Kingdom
Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered charity.
The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.
The 'Longridge Cluster Schools Armistice Project' is going to be strongly community orientated, and will build up a huge portfolio of work including an archive of family stories and artifacts from relatives who served or participated in the First World War.
The community will be working together to knit 19,240 poppies the number of men killed on July 1st 1916 at the Battle of the Somme and using these to create a huge visual image as part of the commemoration. We will be making silhouettes of soldiers whose name appears on the various war memorials around Longridge and surrounding the villages. These will be installed around these communities and bring these long dead men back into the public consciousness.
The children will be taught about the conflict and produce work through subjects of English, Maths, Science, History, Music, Geography, Art, Dance, Drama, Design Technology, Computing, RE and PSHE. We will be looking back at the conflict through the prism of 100 years exploring causes, consequences and what we can learn from it’s legacy.
The project will culminate in two performances on November 11th 2018 at Preston Guild Hall where 500 children and 100 adults will be telling the story of the Great War through music, dance and drama “Armistice”. This hugely significant milestone will be commemorated and celebrated, bring different generations together and most importantly inform future generations about the struggle and sacrifice made by our forbears for our future, so that their memory is kept burning bright and not forgotten. With our current world riven with conflicts it is vital that we try to educate current and future generations so that we can attempt to learn from the past.
In order for this project to take place it requires funding. By donating to the project, you will be helping raise funds for the following:
- Preston Guild Hall hire
- Transport of school children
- Technical support
- Music/instrumentalists expenses
- Purchase of wool for poppies
- Lancashire Museum services
We aim to raise £50,000 to cover these costs. If we surpass this total, any further donations will go straight to the Royal British Legion.
