Story

Looe Shedders is a non-profit Charitable Incorporated Organisation run by volunteers for the benefit of our community

Our Journey So Far

In these challenging times, local people, clubs, schools, and councils are feeling the strain.

Yet there is hope in the vision of the Looe Shedders. A registered charity run by volunteers who offer a community shed packed with woodworking and crafting tools where members can learn, collaborate, and contribute to the whole of Looe.

Highlights of Our Impact

• Looe Repair Café: Free repairs for local residents, helping everyone avoid waste and unnecessary costs.

• Playground Projects: Designing and building a playground bus for Looe Primary School and a playground tractor for Trenode Primary School using recycled materials.

• Youth Club Support: Networking donated computers and completing final fittings for Looe’s Haven Youth Club.

• Community Maintenance: Partnering with the local council to maintain community spaces.

• Event Support: Marshaling for the 2023 Looe New Year’s Eve Fireworks Display.

• Mental Wellbeing Initiatives: Collaborating with Kernow Health to build a shed and raised garden plots at Looe Allotments.

The Challenge

Despite these successes, we lack a permanent home. At present, we operate in a Church Hall car park, which limits our ability to use power tools and restricts activity, especially during winter. We are currently able to operate with the temporary use of a local workshop, which has been a welcome interim solution but is not a long-term fixture for our growing activities._

Imagine the Possibilities with Our Own Shed

• Increased Accessibility: Open more days each month, welcoming more members and expanding our impact.

• Expanded Support: Grow initiatives for schools, libraries, the Church, and individuals in need.

• Youth Engagement: Create a Young Shedders section to inspire and train the next generation in practical skills.

Why Your Support Matters

The Looe Shedders are powered by our members. A proper home will unlock our full potential to serve the community, provide learning opportunities, and strengthen resilience across Looe.

By contributing to the Looe Shed Appeal, you’re investing in:

• A safe, equipped workshop space for hands-on learning

• Access to tools and resources for community projects

• Ongoing programs that benefit schools, clubs, libraries, and families

• A lasting, positive impact on mental wellbeing and skills development

Mental Health Benefits: Why This Matters

• For the recently retired: A purposeful routine, social connection, and meaningful activity can help transition away from daily work, reducing isolation and fostering a sense of purpose.

• For the bereaved: Creative projects and shared spaces offer safe avenues for expression, coping, and rebuilding daily life with supportive peers.

• For newcomers to the area: A welcoming community hub accelerates belonging, reduces loneliness, and builds local networks.

• For those feeling lonely or isolated: Regular group sessions, collaborative projects, and skill-sharing foster friendship, accountability, and hope.

• For overall mental wellbeing: Learning new skills boosts self-efficacy, provides achievement milestones, and releases the cognitive and emotional benefits of creative activity.

The Benefits of Learning New Skills

• Sense of mastery and accomplishment

• Improved cognitive health and problem-solving

• Social opportunities through collaboration and mentoring

• Greater resilience in the face of life transitions

• Practical, transferable skills that empower individuals and families

Join us in turning this vision into reality. Together, we can build a stronger, more connected, more resilient Looe.
