Story

Looe Shedders Needs Your Help to Build Our Permanent Home

Our Shed is a place where people of all ages can connect, create, and care for our community.

We’ve already achieved so much, but now, with your help, we can secure a permanent home and make an even bigger difference in Looe.

Please donate as every pound you give will help us build a new, sustainable workshop.

Who We Are

We’re the Looe Shedders, a non-profit charity run by volunteers for the benefit of our community.

Our friendly bunch of makers, fixers, crafters and doers share their skills, and keep our community spirit alive, but our shed isn’t just a workshop. It’s a lifeline, tackling loneliness, teaching practical skills, and giving people, young and old, a reason to get up, join in, and make a difference.

It’s where friendships are formed, confidence grows, and people rediscover purpose.

And we’ve done all this without a permanent home.

Just Look What We’ve Achieved So Far

Even working from borrowed spaces and garages, we’ve already:

• Fixed hundreds of items at our Looe Repair Café, saving residents money and cutting waste.

• Built playground equipment for local schools. A tractor, a bus, a Wendy House and raised flower beds using mostly recycled materials.

• Supported the Haven Youth Club with computer networking and fittings.

• Partnered with Looe Community Academy to help young people develop new skills.

• Helped maintain St. Martin’s Community Hall.

• Built a shed and a raised garden for Kernow Health’s Wellbeing Project.

• See Our Community Projects for more.

Imagine what we could do with a proper workshop?

Our Dream Is Within Reach

The wonderful Chemin Neuf Community at Sclerder Abbey has offered us land to build a purpose-built, eco-friendly workshop.

A home that’s warm, green, and built to last.

Our new shed will have:

• Solar panels to power our tools sustainably.

• Heat pumps and great insulation to stay comfortable year-round.

• Space for people to create, learn, and belong.

This is our chance to create a real home for creativity, community and care right here in Looe, but we need your help to make it happen.

Our Challenge

Right now, we’re working out of a borrowed garage. It’s been brilliant, but it’s only temporary and in six months, we’ll have to leave.

Without a new base, we’ll be back working outdoors in all weathers. That means fewer projects, fewer members, and fewer chances for people to connect.

We can’t let that happen.

Our Goal: £100,000

Every donation, big or small, brings us closer to building a home that will serve our community for generations.

A place where:

• Older people find friendship and purpose.

• Young people learn skills and confidence.

• Everyone belongs, contributes, and creates something good.

Phase 1 – Imminent - We need £7,500 to cover solicitors, architects and planning fees.

Phase 2 – Once we have planning permission - £9,500 for the purchase of 3 shipping containers to create a workshop for our tools and equipment.

Phase 3 – Following Phase 2 - £83,000 for the purchase and fitting out of the main building.
