    Story

    I would like to begin by thanking everyone for your amazing support and generosity. Since we made our appeal for funds towards life prolonging treatment for Lorraine, you have gone above and beyond to help us achieve the target we needed for her to access the treatment. Despite all our best efforts we have fallen short of that target so that treatment is no longer available to Lorraine, however, it is not all bad news. She has been fortunate enough to be selected to be a part of a trial for a new treatment; this was available at Clatterbridge Hospital, Liverpool with no cost to her. Lorraine is due to start her third of sixteen rounds next week, she is finding it really tough and parts of the treatment are brutal, but as she says, it’s better than the alternative.

    Of course this means that the funds you have so generously donated cannot be used for the original purpose. We would like to propose that the £43, 618 is used to help more people suffering the same terrible cancer as Lorraine. We have been in discussion with Weston Park Cancer Charity; Lorraine spent a lot of time there and was helped a lot by the wonderful staff. The amount we will donate will go towards the care of its patients and vital research that will help change and improve so many lives. I have attached a brief statement from both charities outlining their aims and what the money will be used for. Lorraine would also like to donate a small portion of the money to another charity very close to her heart, in June 2019 her nephew died suddenly and unexpectedly due to SUDEP (Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy). She has organised and taken part in many fundraising events for this charity which supports young people living with epilepsy by providing funding for equipment not available through NHS. They also help young bereaved siblings and close friends through the toughest times by funding activities, therapies and counselling. We propose £40,000 to Weston Park Cancer Charity and £3618 to Jon Shaw Foundation (1189073)

    We understand of course that you donated money for a different reason and so we would like to offer you the opportunity to request a refund of the money you donated. If you would like your original donation refunded please email wendyshaw641@yahoo.com in confidence with your bank details and I will arrange that once the page has been closed down and the funds are available. I intend to close the page on 20 February, please make any requests to the email above before that date.

Our research grants fund research projects to improve our understanding and treatment of cancer, by investing in medical, scientific and care related research that enable people to live longer or better lives with or beyond cancer. This include pre-clinical lab projects, clinical trials and studies into the cancer experience. Much of our funding goes towards four key areas;
