Story
Brixton Soup Kitchen was founded in January 2013 by Solomon Smith, a lifelong Brixtonian who identified the essential need for such a space for homeless people or people in desperate need.
The kitchen aspires to provide food, drink and companionship in a warm and friendly environment on a weekly basis. Since starting up, they have served over 10,000 meals either eaten on site or distributed during food drop offs and outreach sessions.
They have also had trained professionals at the kitchen to deliver one to one consultation sessions with clients to re-house people, assisting people to claim benefits they rightfully deserve as well as back to work training.
None of this would have been possible without the donations and support from local community members as well as local businesses.
This is where lost (g)loves comes in.
On the 25th March 2017, we are exhibiting 25 photographs with the concept of "lost gloves".
The concept came about in November 2015 as every time I saw a lost glove on the ground I would think to myself "Gloves are meant to be in pairs! This poor glove has lost it's friend, it's been left on the street, unnoticed by passers by".
It started as a little joke in my head, but I soon realised it was the harsh reality about homelessness in London.
One of the top reasons for people becoming homeless in the UK is relationship or family breakdowns; the lost loves.
The homeless are the lost (g)loves of our city.
We are hoping to raise lots of money for Brixton Soup Kitchen so they can carry on doing the incredible work they're doing, and we have set a target of £500.
For more information on the event, please visit www.lostglovesexhibition.tumblr.com.
To purchase your £5 ticket to the event (all proceeds towards the charity), simply donate £5 on this JustGiving page and write your name for the guest list.
Thank you in advance for all your help and support.

7 years agoI just want to say a massive THANK YOU to everyone who came to the event / donated - altogether you have helped so much. Genuinely, every single penny of what was raised will go into helping the homeless people of London. I will be going to help out one afternoon at Brixton soup kitchen to see where we have all helped out and to volunteer my services too :) Again... thank you!!!!!

7 years agoThank you SO much to everyone who came last night and to anyone has donated before or after the event. It honestly means so much to me, and anyone who was there last night who heard Solomon's speech will know how much it means to him too. We sold 15 out of 25 prints last night, which surpassed any expectations I could have had: so THANK YOU. That does, however, mean we still have 10 prints available, so we are selling these now to try to raise even more money. Go to www.lostglovesexhibition.tumblr.com/prints to see prints available.
