Story
Back in July 2015, Louie began complaining about a pain in his leg, we took him to the doctor and his story began. We were seen by our local GP who referred him to our local hospital in November 2015. After the health care on the Isle of Wight didn't seem to have the solution to Louie's problem, he was referred to Southampton General Hospital in January 2016. Louie had an ultrasound to try and find what was causing him pain in his leg, and this showed a difference in the muscle in his thighs. Louie then went through having an MRI scan to try and further investigate the problem, and was diagnosed with a Venus Arteriovenous Malformation. The doctors told us that he would always have it, and this was a lot to take in for us and Louie. He was referred to Great Ormand Street Hospital in London, and we were shown his MRI scan for the first time. He had many tests at Great Ormand Street, such as direct puncture venography of his vessels in his leg, and the doctors at this hospital believed Louie may not have a Venus Arteriovenous Malformation. After having to take in that he may have a lifelong health problem to then being told that this may not be the case, we all were desperate to know what was really the problem. We were sent back to the Isle of Wight still not knowing what was wrong with Louie, and he was still being affected by the problem as day to day activities were made difficult for him. Later on in the year, we were referred back to Southampton General Hospital, and the doctors told us that they had wrongly diagnosed Louie and we felt like we were back to the beginning again. He was then diagnosed with a shorter achilles in his left leg, causing him constant discomfort and not being able to walk properly. Louie needs an operation to lengthen his achilles, and on the NHS he will not be able to have it done until 2018, he simply cannot wait this long. We have been forced to go private so that Louie can receive the health care he deserves and be a normal little boy
