    Story

Whilst travelling with my family through Nepal in August 2015, we came across some children sitting on a river bank having their hair cut. Intrigue led us to an orphanage where realisation struck that we needed to do something to help the discarded children of Nepal.

The latter part of 2015 led us back to Nepal in search of a house that we could use to set up as an orphanage and in early 2016 The Dusty Yak Foundation was formed to provide financial aid to female orphans in Nepal. Where further funding allows we can also create sustainable living conditions for low income and impoverished families.

Political instability, corruption and impoverished conditions make being a child in Nepal very difficult. Children are neglected, abandoned and sold into slavery. Girls are vulnerable and rejected by their mothers and most are not educated.

We set up The Dusty Yak on the basis that 100% of ALL funds raised go in the pot. No fees. No charges. Volunteers manage The Dusty Yak and activities are constantly monitored.

We re-homed 11 girls in August 2016 from desperate situations. They lived 3 in a bed with one water tap supplying 76 children. One make shift stove allowed for a limited diet of rice once a day and tin sheeting was the only protection from the weather. These girls suffered from abuse, malnutrition and medical problems.

We refurbished a house in Kathmandu with locally made goods and employed staff to look after 11 girls. We have a live in qualified paediatric nurse and a full time cook to take care of the girls.

They have all had medical and dental check ups and psychological and educational assessments.

They all attend a school, walking distance from our Foundation, and all subjects are taught in English (bar Nepalese!).

Education is one of the greatest gifts one can give to a child from a third world country. The Dusty Yak Foundation supports an on going vocational training programme whereby orphans can continue their studies.
