Story

On Saturday 15th July, Darren was involved in an extremely serious accident. He came off his bike resulting in life changing injuries.

Darren was doing his regular ride home from work when he came off down Alma Terrace in East Morton, he suffered serious injuries and was air lifted to Leeds general infirmary. He was taken to Accident & Emergency and Darren was in a critical condition, with multiple serious injuries and that evening Darren was rushed for emergency surgery to relieve pressure on his spinal cord. After surgery Darren was taken to Intensive Care, that morning the surgeon came to tell Emma the devastating news that the surgery had been unsuccessful and Darren’s Spinal Cord had severed and Darren would be paralysed from the waist down. Along with this Darren had also suffered, 2 collapsed lungs, broken neck, fractured skull, fractures to his face, broken jaw, shattered right shoulder blade, broken right collarbone, major nerve damage to his right arm resulting in Darren only been able to move his right hand, dislocated spine and broken spine.

Doctors said that he would be in LGI for about 3 to 4 months, and then moved to Pinderfields in Wakefield for rehabilitation. Since the accident Darren has made a remarkable recovery so far, he has been moved from ICU to HDU and is now on a ward at LGI and once his tracheostomy is removed which they are hoping will be within the next 2 weeks, he will be then transferred to Pinderfields, where he will start his intensive rehabilitation.

Darren and Emma will need to make extensive and expensive changes to their home, to make it suitable for Darren’s return.

This has come as a massive shock financially. This is where you all can help. Fundraising will now begin with the help of you all, but feel free to contribute to Darrens fund at any point.

Darren and Emma thank you all for your love and support xxxxxx
