💖 Help Us Launch the Book of Boobs (BOB) & Expand Project BRAVE
“Every detail matters. Every image helps. Every woman deserves to see herself in the choices she’s offered.”
Too many women are asked to make life-changing decisions about mastectomy and reconstruction without being able to see what their options truly look like.
Stylised images, verbal-only consultations, and a lack of visual support leave women confused, unsupported, and full of doubt. The result? Emotional trauma, decisional regret, and a system that fails to meet women where they are.
We’re changing that.
What Is the Book of Boobs (BOB)?
BOB is a visual decision aid created by TONIBOBANDLOU CIC — blending fine art photography, expert insight, and real patient stories to empower women with clarity, confidence, and dignity.
- 📸 Real surgical outcomes with medical annotations
- 🗣️ Patient stories that offer reassurance and clarity
- 🌍 Inclusive representation across age, ethnicity, BRCA status, and body types
“Before BRAVE, I didn’t know what I was actually looking at. Now I can compare outcomes and understand what each choice means for me.” Project BRAVE participant.
🔍 Where It Started — Project BeliEVE
Before BOB and BRAVE, there was Project BeliEVE — a ground breaking research initiative led by TONIBOBANDLOU CIC in partnership with The Evolved Group. Using conversational AI (EVE — Evolved Verbatim Engine), we gathered deep emotional insights from 126 women navigating breast reconstruction decisions after cancer or as a preventative measure.
What we learned was urgent and clear:
- 88% of women were dissatisfied with the images available to support their decisions
- Half lacked confidence in making informed choices
- Many felt emotionally overwhelmed and visually unsupported
“You can't make an informed decision when there are not enough detailed images. This is a life-changing operation, so every detail matters.”
These findings became the foundation for the Book of Boobs and its pilot rollout: Project BRAVE.
🎞️ What Is Project BRAVE?
Project BRAVE (BOB Research and Vital Education) is our pilot initiative in Oxfordshire, supported by Against Breast Cancer. It brings BOB to life through a visually rich, magazine-style guide that offers:
- 📸 Contextualised portraiture with medical annotations
- 🗣️ Patient testimonials reflecting varied experiences and outcomes
- 🌍 Inclusive representation across age, ethnicity, BRCA status, and body diversity
“It’s not just a booklet — it’s the first time I felt listened to, before I even spoke.”
🌍 From Individual Empowerment to Systemic Change
Project BRAVE directly supports the NHS Long Term Plan (2019–2029) by:
- ❤️ Putting patients at the heart of decision-making
BRAVE helps women become active participants, not passive recipients.
- 🤝 Delivering personalised care
The guide adapts to individual experiences — age, ethnicity, genetics, emotional needs, and surgical preferences.
- 📣 Improving cancer outcomes through shared decision-making
By visually demystifying choices, it reduces decisional regret and promotes patient satisfaction.
- 📈 Reducing health inequalities
BRAVE’s inclusive imagery platform is designed to reach marginalised and underrepresented communities.
Early Impact:
- 100% of participants felt better prepared to discuss their options
- Nurses and surgeons reported enhanced communication and greater clarity in consultations
- Patients expressed emotional relief, having access to imagery that reflected their bodies and values
