Story

My name is Tyrese Haines and I am 14 years old. I live in Blackbird Leys in Oxford. I am writing to you to tell you about how fortunate I am to have been given the opportunity through Camps International to go on an expedition to Kenya in August 2020!!

This will be a 4-week expedition which I am both excited about and very nervous as I have never been away from my family and home for this length of time before. It will include community development work, environmental projects and wildlife conservation.

I feel really blessed and fortunate and would really like to help make a contribution towards the day to day challenges that rural communities face such as access to clean water, education and housing, which I know I for one take for granted.

The core objectives of this expedition are to undertake projects in order to raise the educational standards of developing communities within a rural district of Kenya. I will also be helping to raise the living standards of developing communities, and assist with ongoing wildlife conservation programmes to preserve biodiversity and protect vulnerable habitats.

I know that this will be a once in a lifetime, life enhancing opportunity and is extremely important to me because I feel that I will acquire and develop many important life skills such as Leadership, communication, team-building and independence all whist exploring a beautiful part of the world and new cultures. No one in my family or friends have ever done anything like this before.

Thank you for taking the time to read about my journey and I would be extremely grateful for any contributions you can make towards my fundraising.

Tyrese :)
