Story
Anyone who has walked the stretch of the River Dee in Culter knows how valuable this path is to the community, and to the wider public. A herculean effort was made to repair the path and reinforce the riverbank, to ensure access to all members of the public by the local volunteer force & members of our community, through donations of money, materials, equipment, time and expertise, and grants from Aberdeen City Council’s Common Good Fund.
Sadly recent flooding events have washed away a more westerly section of the path, but a plan is underway for Summer 2021 to install a reinforced concrete path, accessible to all, and higher up the bank to avoid future flooding damage.
Another Grant of several thousand pounds has already been secured from the Aberdeen City Council Common Good Fund to help towards the cost of specialist equipment, materials and support for these repairs but repeated flooding has caused unprecedented damage leaving a substantial shortfall. We must now install reinforced concrete similar to that which has been so successful on the western end of the path for more than 35 years.
Further sponsorship is already pledged from within the local community resulting in us already being well over half way to achieving target funding of £27,000 (twenty seven thousand) for the reinforced concrete work.
The Culter Volunteer Team, under Stan Reid, provides all labour and management of this work to the community free.
What a great opportunity for us all to leave a legacy in the form of a great flood-proof path for future generations . If we can all spare a small donation we can make this happen.
