    Story

    What is my World Challenge?

Last year, in 2017, I decided that I would like to join other students from my school in applying to participate in a World Challenge to Nicaragua. The adventure is run by the World Challenge organisation and thier core purpose is to allow young people to develop the life skills required to live a life of courage, kindness and adventure. These are attributes I want to develop and so commiting to this opportunity seemed the right thing to do!

    Explosive adventure, uncovering culture!

With around 20 others, I will be traveling to Nicaragua, in Central America. The World Challenge is split into three parts.

Part 1: I will undertake a physical challenge. Hiking through the heat of cloud forests, past gushing waterfalls and trekking up steep terrain, I will summit 5 volcanoes in 5 days, scaling Mogoton as our final peak at sunrise. There I will have one foot in Honduras and have views across after Nicaragua, Honduras and El Salvador. Once we have summited the iconic jet black peak I hope to enjoy volcano boarding back down!

Part 2: After our hike, we will have some time for rest and relaxation before commencing our final challenge. I bet you haven’t tried stand up paddle boarding in the lake of an extinct volcano crater? I can't wait!

Part 3: I will be teamed up with local conservation efforts to help protect turtles or maybe caiman crocodiles or there is a possibility that I will be immersed in the efforts of rural communities to improve their quality of education. This part of the Challenge will be confirmed nearer our departure.

    Raising the participant fee

Before I even arrive in Nicaragua, in July 2019, my first challenge is to rasie the £3000 participant fee. I have been really busy and in the last 8 months I have raised over £1000. I have achieved this by: dog walking, car washing, trading books and clothes, making and selling sweet cones at all sorts of events and fairs, run games stalls, I have car booted, made and sold tea cup candles, watering gardens and I have even been involved in decorating venues for weddings! I have turned my hand to anything people have asked of me. I also have the support of my local Lions Club, who are holding a quiz night for me and I have been busy sorting out a raffle.

There is still a long way for me to go! I have set up this page as a helping hand as some family and friends live to far afield to allow me to wash cars or buy my goods and have asked me if they can make a donation. I have set my target at £300, 10% of what I need to raise.

Any donations will be a great help, very welcome and sincerely appreciated. I anticipate that my world Challenge will be exactly that, a huge challenge, but I am putting myself forward so I can not only learn about and support others from another culture but also to learn about myself and the person I want to be.

    Thank you, from Lowenna ~x~
