Lowri Davies recently qualified for the GB Team in freestyle kayaking and is due to represent Great Britain at the World Championships in Argentina at the end of November. Unfortunately, there is little funding available for Lowri's World Championship quest and she will have to fund everything including flights (£800), hire car (£350), entry fees / team contribution (£200), accommodation (£500), insurances, kit and more. This is before considering all her training costs and the time not earning!

Lowri has helped a lot of paddlers to get more from their paddling and put smiles on many faces, particularly within our group "Slightly White Water". She donates a lot of her time to give back to the sport so we'd love to be able to help her represent the country in something she is very dedicated and talented in (she has represented GB internationally for over 15 years, including being European Champion and 4 time British Champion - all of which has been self-funded with limited private sponsorship).

Freestyle kayaking is like gymnastics or freestyle skiing / bmx, but using a kayak! Competitors surf on a wave in the river then use strength and skill to make the kayak do aerial loops, cartwheels, kickflips and moves with much weirder names such as Space Godzillas... all without falling off the wave. Lowri trains on the Dee, but in the summer months often has to travel further a field to have the features that are big and deep enough to practice her tricks.

Lowri runs a kayak coaching company called FlowFree coaching which brings many people to the valley to enjoy the river, pubs, restaurants, cafes, hotels, hostel and campsites. She also regularly helps out with Llangollen Canoe Club and other regional clubs - hoping to enable more local people to make the most of the natural assets of our beautiful valley.
