Story
Luca's early life was quite eventful & as such he has cerebral palsy (Right Hemiplegia with a severe spastic diplegia overlap). This means he cannot walk, so he needs a power wheelchair to mobilise in a majority of places. He also struggles with stiffness in his right side/shoulder/arm & hand. However, he is fiercely competitive & despite his difficulties he wanted to do some sport.
Luca currently plays for West Bromwich Albion Throstles Powerchair Football Team. Training is every week. Luca is very committed and attends every week that training is on. Luca is always keen for more competition & trains hard to ensure he is always learning new skills.
Obviously the cost involved in supporting a disabled athlete is quite high, wheelchair maintenance, fuel & hotel costs etc can mount up (£4500-£5000 appx a season depending on how many leagues/matches & where), this impacts on us financially being able to give him the support he needs, which is one of the main reasons we have set up this page.
Luca dreams of one day playing for his country in the future, which will only be helped the more skills he learns, the harder he trains & the wider variety of equipment he is familiar with.
Bio:-
He tried out some wheelchair football when he was about 7, which he loved. He attended various clubs & eventually has been lucky enough to play nationally both with Celtic Storm (debuting at only 10 years old) and more recently Villa Rockets .
In season (14/15) he competed in the East Midlands Regional League & was privileged to be voted one of the Most Valuable Players for the premiership division of this league.
This season (15/16) he has played in more premiership games & has been the teams top goal scorer for the team for most of the season.
Locally he was nominated & won Torbay Parasports Athlete of the Year (2015) & more recently he won Community performer of the year for Inclusive Sport in Devon Sports Awards 2016
