I've raised £2000 to undertake a study investigating the potential relationship between captive cheetahs kidney disease and their interaction with humans.

We currently understand how commonly captive Cheetahs suffer from Kidney Disease which is often fatal. It is observed that it is common for Cheetahs to lick people affectionately, of which could have chemicals on their skin such as sun cream and insect repellent, to which it is theorised that this could be a significant contributing factor to the onset of this feline Renal failure. There has been limited studies found so far, that have questioned this or looked for a correlation between the licking behaviour and the reduced kidney function, however alot of studies have provided evidence of Kidney disease being common in captive Cheetahs as oppose to wild Cheetahs. We would like to raise enough money to undertake a research study to investigate whether there is a relationship between the Kidney disease and their licking behaviour towards humans. Once the research project is completed, if statistically significant evidence is found, it has the potential to provide a new insight into ways of helping prevent Kidney disease in the future by adapting the way humans interact with them. The funding provided would go towards travel costs, the cost of tranquillising the Cheetahs, the laboratory testing and analysis and also maintenance.
