Weʼve raised £5,426 to Raise funds to help support out local community during the coronavirus outbreak

    Melling, Liverpool
Funded on Friday, 24th July 2020

    What is crowdfunding?

Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered nonprofit.

The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.

    Story

We are Melling Community Volunteers, formed by Sue and Adam from The Horse & Jockey pub Melling and a team of local volunteers.

Our village pub decided to close on Thurs 19th March ahead of Boris Johnson's announcement that all pubs were to close.

We had already decided to mobilise as a community kitchen knowing that there would be a need for local people to be cared for.

For the past week Sue, Adam and Dee Franklin at the Horse and Jockey have cooked meals every night and our team of local volunteers have distributed them directly to local elderly and vulnerable residents.

We have also collected and distributed prescriptions and items of shopping to those in need.

We have done all this for free and volunteers have also paid out of their own pockets for items that people need. We have not wanted to take money due to contamination fears with the coronavirus outbreak.

Local people have left donations of dry goods and essentials but these will not last forever. The Horse & Jockey cooked their menu from scratch each day so the fresh food from their stock is almost gone.

Many people have asked to contribute to our cause and we have reached a point that in order for this to be sustainable we need to invest in deliveries of fresh foods and bulk items. Supermarket chains have donated millions of pounds worth of food to food banks already but we aren't a food bank as such - we are making meals ready to eat and delivering them to the doors of the people who can't leave to access a food bank.

The provisions that are already in place for our most vulnerable in our society are not 100% working for everyone. We need to ensure we can keep our elderly indoors and they need our help.

    Thank you!
