Story
My name is Lucy Jordan-Caws. I am a 20 year old Deaf swimmer from St Albans and I am currently based in Birmingham. I train with Verulam Swimming Club in St Albans, and with the University of Birmingham Swimming Club when I am at Uni. I hold Scottish Deaf records in the 200m Butterfly in both Long- and Short-Course distances.
I have attended the European Deaf Swimming Championships which took place in 2018 in Lublin, Poland. This was an unforgettable experience and my best result was coming 5th in the 200m butterfly, missing the podium by 2 seconds.
I have been selected to represent Great Britain in the 6th World Deaf Swimming Championships which will take place this August in Argentina. My recent training has been going well and I am looking forwards to racing for GB again, after my training was put on hold during the Covid pandemic and due to academic examinations.
Deaf Swimming in the UK does not receive government funding and is often neglected by sponsors therefore I am crowdfunding to support with some of the costs of going to the World Champs. My costs are estimated to be around £3000, including flights, hotels and entry fees.
