    Story

On 15th March 2017 James took to his bed with flu like symptoms. Unknown to us was the beginning of a long Journey that would result in a Liver Transplant on 20th July 2017. James had suffered a spontanious infection in his liver which caused both his Liver and Kidneys to fail. Our lives changed overnight!

On the 15th of March 2017 James took to his bed with Flu like symptoms, 6 days later he was in the Critical Care Unit in Colchester General Hospital with Liver and Kidney failure and he was fighting for his life. James was Transfered to Addenbrookes Intensive Care unit On 26th March 2017, the journey caused him to deteriorate, his lungs filled with fluid and he was put on a ventilator with a 5% chance of survival and a prepare for the worst conversation with the Consultant. 2 days later James started to show signs of improvement and a week later was transferred to High dependancy in the Transplant unit. His Kidneys started to recover and the transplant team worked to get James well enough to go through transplant surgery. James was able to come home on 9th May and after many tests and assessments, on 13th June it was confirmed that James was on the transplant list. James was re-admitted to Colchester General hospital 14th July after having a sickness bug and his health had declined and required several blood transfusions. At 1am on18th July we had the first phone call from Addenbrookes they have a liver for James at 10am we are told the liver couldn't be used. Then came a second call at 7am 19th July, we are told ETA 2pm we waited and waited and finally James is wheeled down to theatre at 8.30pm the walk was mentally the longest walk I have ever done. The Surgeons work through the night and James moves to recovery around 6am and then we were together again at 10.30am. If it wasn't for the wonderful doner and the fantastic team at Addenbrookes James wouldn't be here today. To mark the anniversay of James transplant we are organising a sponsered shave on 20th July and a pier to pier walk on 21st July. James and my Father will be shaving Their beards and hair which has been growing since James transplant and I will be walking between Clacton and walton pier with a group of people to raise money for Addenbrookes Liver Transplant Association and for Addenbrookes Transplant Unit.
