Story

I heard about the Centre for Youth Driven Development Initiatives through my friend of many years, David Lawrence, who trained as a doctor and decided to work in communities less reached by medical and education services, particularly to help those affected by HIV/AIDS.

With programme director Enoch Magala and their other wonderful volunteers (http://www.cfyddi.org/meet-the-team.html) David set up this charity, based in Uganda, which has gone from strength to strength.

Their new project, Women with a Purpose, captures my heart for obvious reasons!

With the fortune of being born in the UK, I've always been able to take access to basic healthcare, education, sanitation and social opportunities for granted. Opportunities for women in the UK have grown enormously over the decades and I have been able to access higher education, to work in a profession previously dominated by men and to choose to have a family life which does not stop me from being able to earn a living and develop my career.

Many women in Uganda do not grow up with the same start as me, with their lives impacted by HIV/AIDS, lack of access to education and healthcare.

So, I would love to help fundraise for this exciting project to empower women with the knowledge, skills and confidence to build their own futures.
