Story
We are planning to walk from Ogmore to Aberthaw, along the coast to raise money for East 12 ward at Llandough Hospital. They care for patients with Dementia and they are currently trying to raise funds to make a small salon for the ladies to get their hair and nails done.
My mum is currently staying at the hospital as she is suffering from dementia. This is honestly the most cruel illness to watch a loved one suffer from as she still looks like my mum but all of her mannerisms are changing as her memory is slowly being taken away.
Something as simple as getting her hair done makes such a difference for a short while- it restores a sense of dignity and pride that Dementia is gradually stripping her of.
The walk will start at Wine Street Coffee, where drinks will be provided, then we will all hop on the bus to The Pelican (this cuts down on cars being left in their car park).
From the Pelican, we will walk along the glorious Heritage coast to The Blue Ancher Inn at Aberthaw.
There will be drinks, refreshments and sandwiches provided along the way to keep spirits and energy levels up!
Instead of asking you all to painstakingly get sponsorship, I'm asking for a donation of £20 each (£10 if joining in from Llantwit), of which all proceeds will go directly to the hospital.
As the walk is in Wales and in September, we will proceed even if it rains (and it probably will)!
So, who is in?
More details to follow.
Many thanks,
Lucy xx

7 years agoMorning all! Hope you're all ready for the big walk tomorrow? Couple of things I'm having trouble with- I cant change to post that says we are walking from Ogmore so here it is again...WE ARE STARTING THE WALK FROM TOP CAR PARK SOUTHERNDOWN! Please tell everyone you know, thanks. Also, the JG page has closed (not sure why I set that date to close but there you go) so if you'd still like to donate, please pop into to WSC or maybe if you see us on the day. Thanks again for your support- We've reached the £2000 mark now!!! Lucy x

7 years agoHi all! Totally overwhelmed with your donations so far. We set a target of £1000 and have smashed that-amazing! The donations you see on JG are just a part of the fundraising total. The money raised is going to make such a difference for the ladies at Llandough hospital so on theirs and our mum's behalf... thank you so much! There's still time to donate though, either on JG or pop into the Wine Street Coffee, where we will be happy to have a chat and tell you about how the money will be spent. xx

What a lovely idea! My grandmother loved having her hair and nails done right up to the week she passed away. She said it made her feel she could still be beautiful.
