Story
I have setup this page not only because I would love sponsorship to be able to attend the British Transplant Games in Birmingham this year from 2nd-5th August, and compete for my hospital Team Royal Papworth. But, also, because it is the much needed incentive I need to get my butt in gear with training!
Usually my hospital charity is amazing and helps me out financially so I can attend, however this year it would be fantastic if they didn't need to and they can use that money for something more important. Any leftover money will be given to Papworth Hospital charity. I would be competing in 6 events hopefully including: archery, long jump, 100m sprint and 3km walking race.
As we all know the cost of going away soon adds up from travel, accommodation, food and events. I also need to take into account training costs I must have completed a minimum of three months training prior to competing, which after letting my fitness lapse lately is going to mean I will need a rocket up my arse to get myself in shape! Luckily some events such as walking I can train for free - Yay! But others such as athletics and archery I will need to renew memberships etc. As many of you know I often work evenings after my day job, so will need to cut back on these to fit in the intense training.
I am incredibly 25 years post heart transplant this year, so have set myself the challenge of bringing at least 1 medal home for my team to mark this.
I know how scarce spare money is so only donate if you can afford to. Any sponsorship however big or small will be much appreciated. Last but not least give me a push with training!
Love Lucy xxx

6 years agoThank you to EVERYONE who sponsored me this year! If it wasn't for you I wouldn't have been able to attend let alone win 2 x Silver and 1 x Bronze medals. I had a wonderful time seeing old friends and making new ones! It was a brilliant demonstration of how healthy life can be post transplant. I loved every moment. Now to keep up the training for next year. Eye on the gold ;) THANK YOU, Lucy xxx

6 years agoSo thank you to Everyone who so generously donated and made this possible! Without you I wouldn’t have been to attend the games or if I had it would’ve been with no training as I would’ve been working extra hours to attend! There’s still time to donate, now I’ve taken note of my results I’m determined to try to beat my Personal Bests next time. So will continue training. If I get a medal in the process fab, but being able to maintain my fitness or even improve just shows how normal and active a life you can have post transplant. Thank you x

6 years agoJust to add to my last update that my hospital team won The Beat Heart & Lung Team trophy 🏆! Saying that although we all love a medal it genuinely is the participating at these games. It really puts it in perspective! I’m lucky to be able to compete as thanks to my donor and the NHS I’m fighting fit...although we can always do a little more training 😄 I was beyond shattered yesterday after 4 days of working my body incredibly hard fitting in training hours around my events this weekend. But happy I was still able to do it all 25 years on 😊 x
