Story
Hello
I am very lucky to have been selected again to represent Great Britain in the 2025 World Transplant Games being held in Dresden Germany between 17th to the 24th August 2025.
I will be competing in the sport I qualified in the 3km Racewalk and will additionally be competing in Ball Throw and the 100m Sprint. I am delighted to be selected again to compete alongside transplantees and donors from over forty-five countries from all over the world.
Amazingly, the fact I am so healthy 32 years post-heart transplant means I can compete on an international sporting level. This is not something I take for granted, I am incredibly grateful to my donor, their family, the excellent medical professionals who have looked after me for the past 34 years, and last but not least my family.
The World Transplant Games are run by the World Transplant Games Federation alongside the marvellous charity Transplant Sport, without their brilliant volunteers the World Transplant Games simply wouldn't take place. As a result, this means that competitors and their supporters need to self-fund their attendance.
Thankfully this time the games are in Europe, not Australia, so the cost of attending is significantly less. It is approximately £2,500 consisting of the registration fee, travel insurance, accommodation, transport, and food.
However, as I am now a final year student it is quite difficult for me to work any extra hours to save up the estimated £2,500 costs to attend alongside an increased workload at university and my athletics training for the games. The less time I spend working and fundraising the more time I have to focus on my training, I am keen to bring back another medal this year if I can!
Everyone was insanely generous in the lead-up to my first-ever World Transplant Games (WTG) in Australia in 2023, so please do not feel you need to give again. Anything you can afford to donate is much appreciated, and again any excess proceeds will be donated to Transplant Sport.
Additionally, I am looking for sponsorship from businesses, therefore if you are interested feel free to drop me an email at dresdenwtg2025@gmail.com.
I will keep you posted on my training progress!
Kindest regards & Thank You!
Love Lucy xxx
