    Story

I am trying to raise money for a charity very close to my heart, SOFT UK. I will be doing a sponsored walk from Holm to Dores beach on Saturday 13th october 2018. My little sister Jade, who is turning 7 years old in october(the day of the walk), was born with Trisomy 13. It wasn’t picked up through-out the entire pregnancy, nobody knew until she was born. Jade was born with 2 holes in the heart, an extra toe on each foot, an extra finger on each hand, she is also blind and deaf. She was given a matter of days - if that - to survive, but here we are 7 years later, still powering on through life! So not only is this fundraiser for SOFT, its also for my little sister.

SOFT UK was founded in 1990 by two mothers, Christine Rose and Jenny Robbins. They had discovered first-hand that there was a lack of support and information for families affected by Trisomy 13 (Patau’s syndrome), Trisomy 18 (Edwards’ syndrome) and related disorders.

Trisomy is a chromosomal disorder characterised by an additional chromosome, so your baby has 47 instead of 46. Down's Syndrome (Trisomy 21), Edwards' Syndrome (Trisomy 18) and Patau's Syndrome (Trisomy 13) are the most common forms of Trisomy. This extra chromosome affects the babys development. This syndrome is not a disease and, except in rare cases, it is not a hereditary condition. Instead, Trisomy occurs by chance at conception. We still do not know what causes the presence of an extra chromosome. It is not something you have done or not done - it can happen to anyone.

Any donations will be greatly appreciated x
